I have a bunch of graded coins from ANACS that I can't find in my red book. Like for instance 1958 Wheat penny graded MS66 RD. Red book shows MS65RD for $9 and MS67RD for $450, how the hell do I put a price on my coin???
Check recent 'sold' prices from auction houses and Ebay.......rely not upon the Red Book. Good for getting a gist of things, but not current nor accurate.
I'd suggest to check eBay sold prices. The redbook is a nice resource for information about coins, but the values aren't very accurate. The last eBay sale for a 1958-D Wheat Cent in an Anacs MS 66 Red holder was $9.99 plus $3 shipping. PCGS and NGC examples have sold for around the same ($10-$20). https://www.ebay.com/itm/1958-D-LIN...369164?hash=item3fcd8adbcc:g:IrYAAOSww7pdIgBs
Would tone factor in for higher price or is just a crap shoot, I have some coins that have tone in the capsule.
Some toning is beneficial while other toning is not. Start a new thread, post photos of both sides in full size and we'll let you know our opinions.
Nice toning would play a role in the increasing price. Unattractive toning would lower the price. The Red designation for the 1958-D suggests that it isn't toned (otherwise it would have been Red-Brown or Brown).
Yes like others have said; the Red Book is good for ballpark figures. Here's a few other resources.. https://www.pcgs.com/prices/us https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/united-states/
