Hi Everyone - please help me identify this small gold coin. I have searched the internet with no luck. I would also be interested in knowing the value if possible. Thanks in advance for your help!
Curious. Obverse is of a 1909 quarter eagle ($2.50) gold coin. reverse is some sort of token. I can’t tell if the obverse is genuine and reverse was re engraved
It isn't an authentic coin. However, when I typed in the phrase on the token, my search results came up with several tokens used as jewelry marked with a purity stamp of .333.
came from my grandfather but he has passed away. No one knows anything about it. Is there a way to tell if it has been re-engraved? It sure looks original to me...
An authentic Indian head gold quarter eagle has a diameter of 18mm. The .333 on the reverse likely means it is made of 8 karat gold. In contrast, an authentic coin has a purity of .900 and would be made of 21.6 karat gold. https://www.ngccoin.com/coin-explorer/indian-head-2-50-1908-1929-pscid-58/1909-2.5-ms-coinid-17940
Here is a John F Kennedy obverse. Could be gold I am just not that trusting. https://juststuffisell.com/products/rare-john-f-kennedy-13mm-gold-0870
Sorry, Welcome . Can I recommend something ? Download a program called " Photoscape " . It's FREE and it helps to crop the coin roundly, adjust lighting etc..... Love it .
Maybe easy to sell on ebay, idk. I mean if it has the .333 it may sell, gotta get it weighed tho'. Jewelry store will probably weigh it for you and give you the spot price if you're looking to sell it!
As stated above, not a coin, but apparently .333 gold, so it has that value going for it. It appears to be a minted item used almost exclusively for jewelry, so maybe you can find a old jeweler in town that can give you more information. Welcome to CT and thanks for posting Full Image photos. These old eyes appreciate it.
Whoever wrote that Latin phrase on the back didn't use very good syntax. It should be "Aurum semper bonum erit", which translates to "Gold will always be good."
