So I went and did some yard work over at my grandpas this morning. He paid me in 3 Mercury dimes, a 1921-S Morgan silver dollar, and these 1998 coins. I assume these are Japanese or Chinese, but have no idea what they are. I am very novice. Can anyone please help out? Thanks!
yes they are Chinese/Japanese don't know the language by the pictures they look plated not real silver or gold but I am no expert on them
Agreed. I think they are medals. Maybe not issued by the mint. Maybe someone who can read Chinese can help.
Ok after looking forever on the internet, these are from Taiwan. They come from Bring Love and Joy...I think they might be real? http://www.blj.com.tw/en/about.html
I knew that these were going to be a private issue, but I didn't expect it to be from some random jeweler in Taiwan. Regardless, eBay wasn't any help in identifying your medals @AustinJ0324. The only search results I received was a bunch of crap from the PRC.
A dealer could probably tell you if they are gold/silver. But for a first guess, if you accurately measure the diameter and thickness, we could estimate the density to see if they could plausibly be gold or silver.
The coins look like the same size so the gold colored one should be a lot heavier and that would be a good sign.
