If it's me, no I'm not trying to fool anyone. Just learning and every single person on this site has been thoughtful, courteous, respectful, and you're right about some of them being phunny. Thank you for helping baby sit me through this.

The flat smooth side is flat and smooth. The other side has a checker board pattern to it. If you enlarge it you can see the pattern very clear. It is only on the higher fields. That patter is not on the smooth side. The pattern looks to be very even and deliberate. From there I can't guess.

I appreciate all the input. Now I'm going to see what trouble I can get into with more Sam-must-be-an-idiot questions.

    Thanks!!

Attached is a blank that I got with a bunch of ancients. Smooth on both sides. I could see nothing on either. I have had it for years and am slowly cleaning it. Starting to see some features. So. I will stand with you. Sometimes we are idiots. But, we have fun. Blank A Side.jpg Blank B Side.jpg

One of the first rules of collecting is never clean your coins. You really need to know what you're doing before attempting to "conserve" a coin.
If you post that on Ancient coins forum someone may be able to identify what you have. I'd advise you to stop any further cleaning. At least until you get advice from experienced members.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.
