Unless a subscription with the Mint or a particularly well known/trusted company (like when APMEX takes pre orders for bullion eagles, buffalos, etc.), I personally would not send money to a dealer unless they had the merchandise in inventory.

Do they also have any information on the value? How much are they asking you to pay up front? or is it an open invitation for your order allowing them to charge you any amount the Mint finally sells these items for and for the price over that this dealer wants to charge. Find out if they have a policy for anticipating pricing and billing.

I'd like to hear their policy. I see no policy for pre-orders on their web site. I see no NAt. Parks 5 oz. ads there either and it seems they operate out of an antique mall or some sort of "booth" arrangement. I'd pass on this seller unless you live nearby and can go check them out or have worked with them in the past. Unless pre-ordering/buying a graded example from a dealer like mintproducts.com or moderncoinmint.com most likely your best price will come from the Mint upon release day.

i thought you couldn't get bullion coins straight from the mint, but had to go through one of their authorized distribution channels?

Bullion as in ASE, AGE, AGB non-collector version you cannot.

The national parks 5 ounce coins have not been determined whether the mint will or will not be able to sell direct to public. I believe I have read they have petitioned to be able to sell them direct to the public. No other retail outlet has as yet been announced, to my knowledge, to date.

As per the Coin Act, I believe that only authorized dealers and the National Park Service can recieve them directly from the Mint.

Good looking does not always relate to good investment. I bought the silver proof set for its looks.

Currently that is the case, yet no venue per the Parks themselves have, as yet, announced they will be selling these coins.

As for the ad in Coinage, more than likely the company had the ad on file with the magazine so that as soon as the availability was announced by the mint the company could call the magazine and tell them to run the ad that was on file. That way they don't have to rush to create an ad and get it to them after the announcement. (Typically you have to have your ad with the magazine a month or two ahead of the actual publication date.) By having it on file the magazine can simply pull the current ad and insert the file copy. My guess is that they accidentally pulled and ran the wrong ad.

I don't think the 5 ounce silver coin is out yet. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I've been kicking this around about the sets (proof-unc) prices have gotten a little out of hand. I read a report that the mint wants a 15%
profet across all its products. So I suppose that the higher prices on the proof & unc set are to bring up overall profits.
That being said by buying the annual sets we are helping to keep the prices down for the bullion dealers.
    That's just MHO
