I will do just like for the state quarters: from circulation. I will get my proof sets and mint set every year, but I will have a couple of folders to fill with those quarters too. I enjoy being able to hunt them in pocket change; not many types of coinage can you do that anymore. I don't have the money to spend on coins, so these types of programs are fun for me.
As to the "56 States" I think there are more. After all, today is the anniversary of D-Day, and the National Cemetary in FRANCE is as much a part of American history as anywhere else.
This whole 11+ more years of these new quarters designs have got me thinking...There will be a 20 year gap now between the eagle and when these designs stop...anyone planning on hoarding eagle reverse? lol
Minimum gap of 22 years, with a potential gap of 33 years. After that amount of time, it seems logical that they would go to a permanent new design rather than go back to the same eagle.....that is if they ever decide to go to a permanent design. After all, we could then do the top building in each state and territory for 11 years, then the best body of water in each s&t for another 11, then the best cultural item, then historical landmark, best plant/natural growth, then best looking babe in each state...It might be the next century before the eagle comes back.
I'm in Illinois. No national parks here. The national park service administers the Lincoln neighborhood. I just could care less. But I like nature, so I hope the designs have some nice scenery in them. Much more interesting would have been a series on "America's Great Battles" or "America's Great Inventions" or some such thing. I don't know. Doesn't do much for me.
Like a few other posters said, I will collect them out of circulation and/or rolls - I also will not be getting proofs or silver issues. IMHO, we will NEVER go back to the static design for the quarter - in my crystal ball I see that at the end of the 11 year run for the Parks issue, there will be another "series" of issues - probably single year themes with several different backs (my best guess is 2 to 3). Look for the quarter to become a permanent "circulating commemorative" coin. I don't see multi-year series like the States and Parks being issued again because of "burn out" on the length of the issue.
I was at the post office yesterday, saw a picture of the Mickey Mouse stamp, and told him I was waiting for the Miller Lite stamp.
Grabbing them from rolls!!! Finding a few... and setting them back! The mintage is very low this first year!!!
The more choices the better to me. It will likely makes some less collected series since there are really too many choices. I actually like the quarters. They won't all be beautiful but there is variety. Anything beats the ugly dead presidents. There will likely be some lower mintage stuff in here somewhere with everyone concentrating on the silver and gold. Most people can't buy 1 of everything because the mint has so many offerings. Look at the mintages coming out on some of the first spouse coins, these may be the real sleepers. This sereis is a long way from over so the mintages will likely drop more. Lack
' I got some of my states a little late and the grades show. I missed out on Guam completely and decided I would pay the premium to the mint not to have to stand in line with the rest of the circulation collectors. I still collect everything else from bank rolls and change, and I would have bought the '09 & '10 nickels & dimes if the mint had been selling them. Just waiting now for either the price to settle if they don't hurry up. 30 years of design repetition previous to 1999 are almost forgotten, but not enough to be disinterested or uninvolved in today's bonanza of choices. Full speed ahead on the Park Quarters. Have subscription, will collect. My opinion on future designs is that the future cannot be predicted. But if it could be predicted I would say that congress and the mint will outdo themselves trying new gimmicks to increase public consumption. Don't hold your breath for retro coins in either design nor metal and both are definitely not in the reasonable realm of possibility. Pining for the good old days is a waste of breath. Today's coins go in the same red book without asterisks.
Will probaly "subsrcibe" to the US mint for em. At only $14 for 5 coins, who could say no? In their cases and everything, $14 is uber-little to spend on them, and I'll do this for the next 21 years if I have to.
Man, then you should have gotten one from Vancouver 2010. For a reasonable price of $32 CDN ($33 USD), you got a hockey puck with a hole in it, for a spot to put a coin INSIDE. It also came with the coloured Miga Mascot coin from the Olypics.
