My opinion a dipped f-15. The rims and reverse too worn and flat struck for a higher grade. I believe the coin to have been dipped to death then retoned. It has a flat lusterless "off" color. It brought exactly what it should have but a genuine coin without a doubt. I'd treat it as a raw coin

It is interesting that the piece sold for less and with eBay fees, he took a decent sized loss. I wonder if the market will eventually discourage this type of behavior.

I doubt it sold. Most of the bidders were shill accounts, if you look closely. I'd bet it gets relisted.

If you want to learn about grading disparity, I suggest you ask your library to obtain a copy of the Coin World "year long blind grading study". It was available in the past on the internet, but it appears that "influence" has allowed the article to be "blocked" with only minimal reference.

    A search using the phrase:
"Third-party_grading" will allow a brief overview where there was a 7 grade disparity between TPG.

You have referred to a 4 point grade disparity between a "self slabber" and one of the "top tier" TPG. I believe that can be readily established between the 4 top tier TPG with the current differing "market grading" systems.

I believe to have the graded components which would readily establish, by an independent authority, a 4 point grade spread between the 4 "top tier" TPG.

I believe the current "top tier" grading system can be shown to have the same degree of grading disparity you've selectively documented.

You have mentioned this before, and i believe I had read it. It was very informative. However, I believe this seller's business model is to pass problem coins off to "deal shoppers" on Ebay. Its simple fraud, not grade disparity with this guy.

I believe that's a strong statement for a seller that has almost 400,000 feedback, ~17,500 last year with only <130 not being positive, for a ~99.5% approval rating.

Remind me, who has "conserved" and graded the considerable "environmentally damaged" coins generated by shipwrecks, improper handling, storage/cleaning, etc.. Do they have a feedback system? Do they allow a full refund of all funds advanced, return option after you receive their product and are displeased?

Oh, I remember! Forget It! Enough Said!

FWIW, I have purchased several coins from Centsles, but only one NNC. It was called AU but I thought it would make a low vf or probably just fine. I returned it without a problem. Since them I have purchased several PCGS or NGC graded coins and had great service from him.

NNC has tightened their grading standards and I am seeing realistic grades on coins I submit to them. They have graded 40-50 coins so far, mostly Morgan & Peace dollars. They have sent me 2 Peace dollars graded AU-50, which I thought was a bit conservative, the others graded low MS. There are 5 Morgans sitting in front of me, 4 are graded MS-63 and 1 at MS-62. Two Morgans were returned at AU-58, again conservative. Occasionally, I get a Morgan back at MS-65, but those are premier. They marked a Trade dollar, Cleaned, and two Morgans came back ungraded (damaged). So, it appears they are paying attention. I have seen heavily scratched Trade dollars graded MS in PCGS holders. So, look at each coin, as the majors occasionally have newbie Graders when they are overwhelmed with submissions.

My experience with centeles has been satisfactory. Purchased quite a few coins from him. They come mostly in ICG or NNC holders; some are raw. You just have to know what you are doing when purchasing on ebay. I am careful with the majors; seen some real junk in their holders. Careful with ICG and NNC, too. As they say, buy the coin not the holder. You probably will get a better coin in one of the Majors" holders" as they are more picky. Sometimes you get a grader that is impossible, sometimes you get one in a good mood. I sent 100 Morgans and Peace dollars to NGC, most of the grades were o-k, but I have a whole box of MS-62's. I later heard executive management told the graders they were too lenient. I thought all of those 62's were 63's, but you can't fight management.
