Mystery Prize Contest

Yeah, helicopters, most of my time is in the CH-46 "Mighty Battle Phrog" but I've got some hours in H-3s and H-60s as well.

Now that I retired, I fly an Aeronca Champ. Instead of all that heavy gear it's just flip flops and sunglasses!

That's pretty neat. I've always rather liked seeing those bulky workhorse choppers in use when I see them in documentary or news clips. Their maneuverability and the severe angels you can put such huge helicopters in is quite amazing.

Last night Modern Marvels on the History Channel was airing an episode about an investigation of a chinook that went down. They broke down how the old method of using crushed walnut shells to clean oil lines led to blocked oil flow getting to the rotors. They said that lead to the turning of the blades seizing and hitting the other blades causing the catastrophe, which eventually led to the material being switched upon the root discovery of the malfunction, the addition of new monitoring systems and better safety inspections.

 

My two favorite things are spending time with my son and aviation. Even better when I combine the two.

thanks for the contest. my favorite hobby, besides playing guitar and coin collecting is looking after my beautiful little girl scarlett-jessie sherwood (even though in this pic i look like im about to eat her lol)

 

No, I don't think so.. hope not anyway. I think original post says deadline Sunday November 28. Yes? I am waiting on submitting while I look for something on a photo disk, so am watching that deadline.
