I kinda like the way it looks now.
But then I like verdigris :)

Here's a side by side comparison after the first half day soak.

At least I can tell now that it's a Small date Small fraction! More pics coming tomorrow!

Looking forward to seeing what the coin will come out looking like. The pitting or roughness on some old copper coins is very common.

Great, not an easy thing to get in my part of the world. Will have a look. Cheers.

After another very long soak and toothpick method. I'm pretty sure it won't get much better than this. Still, worlds of difference! DSCN1078.jpg DSCN1084.jpg DSCN1079.jpg DSCN1086.jpg

Good idea to stop, it's not going to get any better. All that's left is the heavy stuff. Let it dry, put it into an airtite and call it a day. I'd probably let it dry for a week (both sides exposed), that was a deep soaking.

    CONGRATS!

Can you explain this a little more. Specifically what bad results can occur if you use xylol after VC?

VC is polar and water-based and xylene is a non-polar solvent. They are completely incompatible!

So would the VC just shed the xylene?
