This is one of my favorite coin designs, the Portuguese escudo. A few months ago I finally got the very rare 1935 to finish off the set. I'm still looking for an upgrade for the 1957, but here is the series, 1927 to 1968. There are some years in there that no coins were produced. This is all of them.
Last group. I just got the 68 today from Portugal. It came wrapped in what seemed to be Portuguese erotica.
Nice lot. I went a little farther back and picked up a 1707 Portugal 400 silver reis. Lots of history in those oldies...even the little portugal gold is cool.
Often when I buy things from other countries they come wrapped in newspaper or taped to a cardboard box or something and I like to look at it and see what I can figure out. I know Spanish pretty well, and Portuguese is similar, so from what I could tell this was a strange choice to wrap around your merchandise and send across the ocean.
Yeah, I like Portuguese coins and the country's history. I'm really into the history of exploration, and Portugal is a little country that punched way above its weight for a long time. They really accomplished a lot. Just didn't have the population to fully exploit it all.
