No.. fakes have been in existence even before that. Particularly rare ones. The 12 piece is made up of very common coins thus chances of fake is also slim as it does not make economic sense or worth the effort

There were lots of fakes coming out of China in the 1880’s to early 1900’s, but these are very often easy to spot. @Topcat7 has a set of such fakes (if I remember correctly).

Most of the GOOD fakes are from 1980 and after. But with a lot of practice, many of these can be spotted, albeit with more difficulty.

The 12-piece set is worth a little over $100 MAXIMUM just based on the coins themselves. There is nothing there that is of really high grade nor really rare. It is all common stuff that can be bought with confidence from cheaper dealers:

    Bob Reis: http://www.anythinganywhere.com/commerce/coins/inv-chincash.htm

    Scott Semans: www.coincoin.com

    Frank Robinson: www.fsrcoin.com

If you need any help or further recommendations, feel free to ask me.

@Loong Siew yes fakes existed but I think in large scale they came up after 1980 with coming of companies in China that make fakes. like after 1980s they even fake cheap coins like wu zhu which absolutely doesn't make sense but nevertheless they do it. my poont was this type of faking of common coins i dont think existed pre 1980s am I right ?

Yes you will occasionally find fakes of common coins for later issues. But these are often easy to spot given poor workmanship and lack og incentive to invest in good fakes. examples are those Qing dynasty coins used for fengshui purposes.

    Thanks @Loong Siew
@TypeCoin971793 would you please take a quick look at these coins and let me know if they are authentic? I am ok if I pay higher as long as they are authentic because I am very paranoid of fakes coming from china. Few days ago I was about to buy a spade coin from an ebay seller called best6666 and the coin had very thick and real looking patina and experts on this site told me it was fake and I cancelled my purchase. I am very worried now on how good chinese make fake patina and now all Chinese cash coins with green patina on them makes me think twice that they could be fake. I appreciate your help in spotting real coins for me so much :)

Not many coins, especially the cheaper ones, are going to have a provenance dating back before 1980. You will have to learn how to authenticate the cheaper coins yourself. I have sent you a personal message with more info.

@arashpour, enough has been said about the authenticity of these pieces I think, but I wanted to chime in nevertheless. I agree completely with @TypeCoin971793 and @Loong Siew: all presented pieces are genuine. The guy that runs numismall, Alex Fishman, has recently been publishing quite a few books on the topic of early Chinese coinage, so I would say he is somewhat of an authority, and above all a reliable dealer that knows his stuff. Although, as was already mentioned, he commands a premium for that. The collection stuck on cardboard is completely genuine, and okay, it has a nice old provenance. But coin-wise, it is way overpriced. Follow Type’s advice on this one. Good luck!
