[QUOTE="Lehigh96, post: 565786, member: 15309"]My latest acquisition is a coin that completes my NGC Registry Set of Jefferson War Nickels. The coin is a 1943/2-P PCGS MS65 5FS with a very light patina and excellent strike and luster. Although this coin now completes my set which is currently ranked 3rd in the NGC registry, I am not finished. My goal is to find a rainbow toned 1943/2-P in MS66 or MS67. Once I do, the set will be finished and this current coin will fall into my duplicate set which will now grab my full attention. Here is a photo of my new piece:

I am very proud of this set and feel a great sense of accomplishment. Believe it or not, this is the first set I have ever completed. I know that technically it is only a subset of the Jefferson series, but it is extremely competitive and not easy to break the top ten in this series. Here is a photo of the completed set along with TPG tags.

I have decided to list some of the statistics of my registry set.

Full Step Designation: 4 of 12 (33%) Both the 1943-S and 1944-D have a chance at 5FS upon resubmission

Star Designation: 5 of 12 (42%) Both the 1942-S and 1944-D have a great chance at * upon resubmission

T Designation: 2 of 12 (17%) An extinct designation and very rare.

MS67: 11 of 12 (92%) Only the overdate (1943/2-P) is MS65.

Bingham Pedigree: 2 of 12 (17%) The 1945-D & 1945-S, a fantastic pedigree if you have ever seen a Gregg Bingham owned coin. Oh wait, I do.

2330653 submission: 2 of 12 (17%) The 1944-S & 1945-P are from this submission. I have confirmed with NGC that this is a mistake and that any coin re-holdered will have the T designation removed and the star designation added if applicable. This may be the only NGC graded coin showing both the star and T designation. Some people actually do collect the plastic. Not a bad idea if this is the coin inside.

Most Expensive: 1944-P NGC MS67 5FS (18/0) Over $1,500

Cheapest: 1943-P NGC MS67 (1741/15) Less than $50

Best Toning: 1944-D This is what they mean when they say MONSTER toning. This coin is guaranteed a star designation upon review and has a chance at 5FS. I consider it the cornerstone of the collection.

Best Value: 1945-D The population of the 1945-P in MS67 is 357/2. Of the 357, only 7 coins have the star designation. I paid less than $500 for this stunning coin. It is the only coin that has more registry points (750) than it cost. My guess is that this is probably the most eye appealing MS67 1944-P in existence.

Average Price: The average price for each coin is $615.

As always, feel free to post your opinions and comments.
