[QUOTE="Collecting Nut, post: 24555330, member: 74863"]This is a Confederate States of America Note. It’s an 1862 $100.00 Note. Catalog number T-39. It’s a bit rough but I’m fine with that. The top is trimmed very tight, especially on the left. The right side is unfortunately cut into the design but that is known on early issues as they were cut and numbered by hand. The lower right corner is damaged but it’s not considered that bad.

This is a $100 Note with a steam train facing left. It also has a steamship in the background giving the impression this was near a port. The coloring is good and has not faded. It also has 2 Interest Paid stamps on the back side.

Interest was paid to 1st January 1863 in Richmond and in 1864 interest was paid to 1st January in Montgomery. This means the note saw a decent amount of usage from circulation. The signatures are strong and only a few light stains appear on the back side.

Two other areas of interest that help the note are:

1) The Note is dated May 5, 1862. This is the first day of issue for this note. Which is very significant as not many are left in existence with that date. I have several of this note but this is the first one for the issue date.

2) The hand written Serial Number is in red ink. That’s common but this Serial Number is special. The S/N is 707, which is makes it a low Radar Note. Only 264,000 notes were issued for this series.

There is a “Milkmaid” on the left side of the note and she is carrying milk on her head. Cows are to her left. The train has diffused steam coming out of the smokestack, as does the ship. You can also see the paddles to the steamship in the center of the ship.

The note was printed by Hover and Ludwig in Richmond, VA. If you look closely you can see the frame lines for the note that was below this one. This has a pane position of A and c. A very nice note in any condition to add to a collection.
