Actually, that's half correct. You can take a snapshot manually by clicking a small, red button on the microscope itself or by clicking a button on the screen the says "Take Photo". I use both ways. I usually use the one on the microscope because I have both hands in use already (one adjusting the coin and one adjusting the microscope). I don't have a third hand to click a mouse button, Haha! And to answer your question, midas1, the photo does not USUALLY turn out blurry when the photo is taken by the on-microscope snapshot button nor through the on-screen button. Isn't that great?! -Brian
It looks just like my Dyno Lite, that I'm not too impressed with. It does take good pictures but the color reproduction is horrible. I think that's mainly because of the LED lights that don't shut off (on mine), and which put too much glare on the coin. Apparently this ebay unit has lights that you can turn off, which should help. Note the color of the Cent in the OP's pictures.
I just bought one, thanks for the recommendation. If it is as good as you say I'll post a picture of a chocolate colored coin I just received in a scrap lot, it's MS, so maybe the good folks here can give me an idea of the probable grade.
I hope each of you that posted that you were buying the device will return to this thread and post a sample from your results.
Isn't this the same "Lighthouse" microscope we went around and around with in a previous thread entitled Is this a decent Digital USB Microscope for taking pics of coins? It sure looks like the same microscope even though the above cost $170 and the current one (Brian's) $30. Read more: http://www.cointalk.com/t162077/#ixzz1Nt2YcvgG
Haha, funny. I was just browsing the web and found this as well: http://www.lighthouse.us/epages/lighthouse.sf/en_US/?ObjectPath=/Shops/leuchtturm_us/Products/DM1 ... I have also seen a similar microscope listed in CoinWorld magazine for nearly $200! Everyone you followed in my footsteps and got the one from eBay, you've done good . It looks to be the EXACT SAME microscope. -Brian
The microscope arrived today. However, when I connected it to my Windows7 64bit PC it was identified, created an icon, but there is no way I can see to operate the camera. I did not install the software on the included CD-ROM. I'll see what I can find on Google.
Mine arrived as well. This is the best site I can find for drivers. http://bigc.com/downloads/ However I'm having trouble getting it to work on a mac.
Just got mine and hooked it up. Didn't use the driver disc. Auto-recognized and from "my computer" was able to take photos. Very sharp. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a way to alter the resolution above 640x480. Anyone else find a way to do it without loading the CD? Thanks, Scott
I'm not sure they're the right drivers unless BIGC mfgs the scope for Digimicro. I found several sites selling it but no home site for driver site.
I installed the Win7 32/64bit "DinoCapture 2.0" drivers. Microscope image in the software appears to be the same as I the one i received except for the color but still not working.
I uninstalled the 32/64bit DinoCapture 2.0 driver then installed the driver from the DigiMicro CD but still not good.
Uninstalled both drivers then let PC install Microsoft video driver dated 1997/2002 for the second time. Was able to figure out how to capture image. Reformatted it in InfranView. The picture is just a test. This weekend I'll take some pictures with the scope using a different lighting set up. Taylor, I tried the CD w/o getting results.
