A new Ebay win showed up yesterday, i had my Coin club meeting last night and was busy cooking, so trying to get caught up. i bought 4 new coins last night, my ancient guy has been in all over Europe for the last 4 months for Boeing and had a pile of new coins with him. But today you get my new Sister.. Julia Mamaea.226 AD. Ae, Sestertius. Obv. diademed and draped bust right. Rev. Vesta standing left, holding palladium and scepter. S -C across fields. Nice big chunk 27x30mm x 21.01g. $28 del. Post any Julia or Sesterius coin you got..
Love that coin Eng!!! BIG sister indeed!!! I have a few Julia's of the Severan variety---and I KNOW Doug does LOL------not to mention a few other of the 'ladies-man' types in our group....Yeah Mat, I'm referring to you among others To start: Julia Maesa and Julia Domna (Julia Mamaea is on bid right now)...and a few others I'll 'Look' for;
A 'LARGER' Julia Domna and a sestertius I 'forgot' I already had of Julia Mamaea--Geez, getting old blows!!!
Nice coin, John! Wish I had sestertius of Julia Mamaea myself. eBay can be great if you're patient and careful. I've acquired many fine coins way below retail prices.
dang ENG, 21 g...what a fatty! i love a "big boned" coin! i don't have her and i recently posted a julia d in one of mats thread...but i have a denarius of her mom as well. i seriously can't keep all the julias straight.
=> yup, I corrected my ooops (I must have read your Maesa (directly above) and made the typo) ... thanks for pointing that out, ol' wise one
Mamaea has very often neat and artistic portraits IMO, much more than others Here are a sestertius I've had for a long time and sold when I eventually found an exquisite second one (unfortunately, none of them is a 28$ purchase Eng) : Julia Mamaea, Sestertius Rome mint, AD 228 IVLIA MAMA EA AVGVSTA, Draped and diademed bust right FELICITAS PVBLICA, Fleicitas standing left, holding caduceus and leaning on column.
