However the iconography employed by this coinage does suggest that it is a double unit. The modern city of Nimes is very proud of its past and the image of the crocodile chained to a palm tree is still very much in evidence. Here is an image of some form of civic port found in the pavement of that city. (too small to be a man hole cover) The black object below is my shoe.
