Beautiful coin! Now you just need a 1927-D to go with it. ;) Cal

I own one saint, and I like it. But I like this one more - and it isn't even gold!

I never thought about it before, but I think that's the best depiction of Liberty on a US coin.

Well being an MVC thread, no question it is my bucket list coin. Easily the costliest coin in my stable.

I was hoping you’d roll that one out. Yours is the only one I’ve seen in hand.

I guess they copied that design from the Continental military buttons.

I guess it would be this one. I've admired the Gobrecht "no stars" obverse design for a long time, also the eagle on the reverse. I wanted a coin with plenty of remaining detail on the raptor so compromised on the surface condition ( old cleaning, not too obtrusive). It helped that my budget was more generous due to a bonus at work.

Ok, it took me a while to get my jaw back in place, thankfully I didn't swallow my teeth. Both are truly amazing coins, but, if you don't mind, what is the grade on the 1796? It looks absolutely pristine to me!

Whoa, a “starry sky” Gobrecht dollar is definitely in “dream coin” territory for me!

It is currently in an NGC MS-62 holder. It was graded MS-61 at one time. Since there are not that many of these coins around, it’s sometimes possible to trace them through previous auction appearances.

I have some US coins that were more expensive than this one but there are no photos of them available from either NGC or PCGS. The US coins are a 1797 small eagle VF 25 half-dime and a 1796 small eagle VF 20 dime.

I don't collect world gold but at the time this coin spoke to me and I just had to have it.
