Let's see. These are made from a direct scan reduction of the long lost orignal peace dollar bronze casting. These will be uber popular in the years to come. It's all but a guarantee. I'd be willing to bet they may even be more popular than the 64 Peace in the years to come. So a version that has a mintage of 50. Yeah, you can take that to the bank and smoke it
I agree that the 175 overstrike version will be popular since it's the closest to a real coin. I'm not so certain that the versions with rings around them do as well. Those look more like encased tokens. I know Carr did something similar for the 2016 Merc, SLQ, and Walker plus an earlier Buffalo Nickel. Have any of those been as popular as the normal overstrikes? I do admit that the 50 mintage could complicate my question.
Not saying they will be as popular as the overstrike but they aren't normal designs. They are created from direct scans of the long lost original design peace dollar reverse bronze casting. That makes a big fat world of difference. And now we have a same day sellout. Congrats to those that got 1
Correct as always brother, but I don't always buy the sure thing.......And it is a private issue, and thereby viewed by a select few.....I'll not put any money in it, but I do like it's design and features......
I had been following the discovery of the original casting on CU, but did not realize Carr was the buyer. These new peace dollars are absolutely amazing, and I can't see why any coin collector would not want one. This is basically what the peace dollar was SUPPOSED to be. I picked up a few, and am thinking about getting more. I wish I had seen the limited 50 one as well.. I missed that!
IMO, this original casting find/purchase is a huge deal and is going to make all of his work even more sought after and valuable down the road. This is probably as big or even bigger than his purchase of the surplus coin press. TC
Exactly. These will be huge. And I'm betting Dan might get written up in all the publications for the find which will add even more desire and interest in the pieces.
I couldn't agree more. Part of me is selfishly wanting him to make these very limited, and not use that reverse anymore, but I know that probably will not be the case. I know it might sound stupid, but I think every coin collector should strive to have one of these.
Not at all. I don't think this type of design has ever been a problem with most folks. I really like it.
I have a strange feeling these will surpass the 2009 ASE proofed in mintage, which were over 4,000+ pieces. However, mintage will surely be much lower than any regular Mint issued Peace dollar and demand will be very strong for these going forward.
Not at all. I would congratulate you This truly is like no other offering ever. The full bredth and scope is only beginning to be understood.
I would doubt that. At least I hope not. Plus the high relief is hard on the dies. He has indicated he will be using the design again in 2021 to commemorate the anniversary of the first Peace and last Morgan so a little now and a little then would be great.
I'll be thrilled if the mintage is limited. Four years is a long gap though Maybe a yearly issue through 2021?
Was only going to get the 2 ounce version but I kept looking at the reverse and just couldn't help myself and ordered the O/S as well.
