It reminds me of my red / orange SA ! Severus Alexander Sestertius 29mm 19.11g Rome 233 AD IMP ALEXANDER PIVS AVG / PM TRP XII COS III PP S-C
Very good buys are out there for the taking. This Caligula AE as was part of three coin lot that cost me $90. Since the other coins, a Severina ant, quite common and the Domitian AE as has some edge damage, I would put the price of the Caligula coin at $45. It ain't pretty, but I ain't complaining. Here's a SA sestertius, Sol reverse, that was part of a Roma E-Sale group lot from a year or so ago.
Ok, let’s try this again. Severus Alexander I am doing something wrong. I select full image and it puts it in like this? I moved the photo to my library from the website…Sorry
Helping @Mammothtooth Not bad at all. Very nice portrait, readable legends, nice toning. Here is my only Severus Alexander sestertius, bought in November 2020 (boy, does time fly away) And my denarius, from the very first auction I was in.
Nice one @Mammothtooth ! @ambr0zie I've been looking for a Severus Alexander sestertius with Victory like yours. I've been close to pulling the trigger a few times and then I remember that my wife will not be nearly as keen on my purchase as I am
Don't be an amateur, @furryfrog02! All my coins "cost" between 5 and 10 EUR. There is no such thing as fees and the transport is always free! This is the official version. I remember a guy's signature, from a different forum. "The worst thing that can happen to a collector is to have his collection sold for the price he told his wife he paid for the coins".
I kind of worked like that last year. Then she hopped on my ebay account haha. Plus, now with a 6th mouth to feed (although he currenly eats for free) my coin buying sprees are at an end . I will try to snag some deals when I can but lately those have been few and far between.
I hope you did not take this personally, it was a joke. All the best to your FF dynasty! Not all my coins were between 5 and 10 EUR, for example the Julia Titi dupondius was 15 (well, on biddr it was 120 + taxes but that is just a lie and false propaganda!). Now (really) seriously, I try to limit my purchases and even if the limit is not exactly in the cheap area, coins are not a vital priority. I try to save as much as I can for a new coin but priorities are priorities.
My concern with all my coins (expensive or otherwise) is if/when I die my wife and my children will just take them all down to the thrift store without a second thought.
I've been working with my kids to love the hobby and so far it seems to be working. My wife knows better as well. She is just concerned with getting a decent price if/when I kick it. ROI, ya know.
Some really nice Severus Alexanders in this thread. My most recent came in a big batch sent to me by uber-generous Coin Talker @tenbobbit back in October. It is a limes denarius with a very attractive, slightly "barbaric" style with a somewhat cartoonish Aequitas on the reverse. It is interesting how much care was taken on some of these limes issues, including the rather involved legends. I really like it a lot: Severus Alexander Æ Denarius (c. 222-228 A.D.) Limes Imitation of Rome Mint IMP C M AVR SEV ALEXAND AVG, laureate, draped bust right / AEQVITAS AVG, Aequitas standing left, holding scales and cornucopia. Imitative based on RIC IV 127c.
