Seems like not a lot of people have seen the type before (I'm one of them) : must be quite rare though. Good catch Ken Q
I have to be honest. This type has never been on my radar. I have seen some pop up now and then but never paid them any attention. I paid retail (no deals there for me), but its one of those coins that just spoke to me and I had to have it.
This one below was in an NAC auction in May. It went unsold, estimate 500 CHF (which I think correct and even a little low). The obverse is better than mine, though the reverse from lesser dies. It has the same bug eye but similar fantastic toning. I might have bid on that one, but I am happy with the example from Tom. BTW, as a semi-local, I saw much more of Tom's stuff than most did. He never showed this one to me. He had many coins he would not sell. While we have seen a lot of them so far this year, jut wait for Triton. That should have some really wonderful material from Tom.
Remembering to leave material in the eye so you could cut a recessed eye (raised in the die) seemed to be harder at some mints making the bug look characteristic for them. My bugs are mostly Alexandrian Severans like this Domna denarius.
I've got no coin to contribute or compare to Ken's nice Augustus coin. Here's my fantasy Agrippa L with Augustus R.
