No batteries. It is powered from the computer with a USB plug. It may end up frying up but I am having fun with it now while I can.
do they have to send them in to a tpg still in the cheerios packaging to get the designation on the non prototypes, or are there markers for them that confirm it as a cheerios dollar?
Only if you want the Cheerios designation on the slab and it DOES NOT have the prototype reverse. Otherwise, the prototype reverse will always be known as the Cheerios dollar. I have only heard of this once a few years back when a roll searcher was going through rolls of SAC dollars and found one. As far as I am aware this is the only know circulated Cheerios Sac. I am sure there are more out there, but they are probably wrapped up in some vault someplace. This is just a guess, but the TPGs may call it a Prototype reverse vs. the Cheerios dollar if it is not in the original packaging. THat is just an educated guess. Some of the first NGC slabs have "prototype reverse" labeled on it instead of Cheerios dollars because the association still was not clear at that time between the Cheerios SAC and regular business strikes. The Discovery piece was labeled this way.
