Garlicus Debt is dumb, cash is king.

From NGC - "To qualify for First Releases, all coins must generally be received by NGC or an NGC-approved depository within 30 days* of their release. Coins being sent directly to NGC do not need to be accompanied by original packaging or shipped in sealed Mint boxes, but must arrive within the time period described above."

Still not sure if that "shipping directly to NGC" means bypassing your home/business when you order them or what...
Anyway, I don't care. I'll see them in their holders when they arrive!

First Release on the dimes, but not the Silver Dollar as it has already been released.

Also to get the SET LABEL for all three coins, Must be OGP Mint sealed box sent.

To receive this special label and MARCH OF DIMES SET pedigree, special submission instructions must be followed.

    Submission Instructions:
    • Coins must remain in the sealed US Mint shipping boxes, and the entire unopened package must be sent to NGC for certification. NGC must open these boxes in order for the coins to qualify for the MARCH OF DIMES SET pedigree.

Note: If NGC receives the package unsealed, only the two Roosevelt dimes will be eligible for the MARCH OF DIMES SET pedigree and/or the Early Releases and First Releases designations.
    • Select the Modern tier or higher and select Special Designation / Label and check either Early Releases or First Releases. Check the NGC website for Early Releases/First Releases cut off dates. Special Designation / Label must be selected for the MARCH OF DIMES SET pedigree even if Early Releases or First Releases is not desired or if coins are received after the cutoff date for those designations.
    • The default label will be NGC’s Roosevelt “We have nothing to fear” label (shown below):

    • If you would like Mint packaging returned, select “Return Mint Packaging” in section 3 of the NGC Submission Form.
    • Please note that NGC’s First Day of Issue designation is available only for bulk submissions.

How could anybody or thing possibly determine that the coins in your box are "First Day of Issue"? Maybe they were shipped on the second day?

Well, I bought them 13 minutes after the bell and paid for one day shipping, so maybe mine are the only TRUE first day issue! :)

No offense, but in my opinion I think grading these coins is a waste. Even if you got one 70, I think there's easier ways to make money

It's my job. My career. How I provide for and contribute to my family. But I still LOVE coins and get tremendous enjoyment out of them. I just happen to do my hobby for a living! :)

Probably so, but like I stated earlier in the thread, I had the money to spend and wanted to give it a shot with my 5 sets. Anyway, we'll see how it all turns out as I'll be posting the results here.

yes but in your case from what you have posted you seem to be a dealer and thats your job. I am thinking have all collectors become dealers? i have been out of touch for many years maybe its a natural progression.

I saw that happen a lot during the Kennedy gold disaster. I was in line with a couple collectors that flat out told me they wanted one for themselves but literally could not pass up the money.

This may be a silly question, but why does the mint not step up quality control so all output is checked for perfection (maybe another $10 - $15 per set) and cut out all this nonsense?

Does not this whole process of taking a new product from a factory and paying someone else as much as the original cost of the item to inspect it and possibly find fault with it seem just a little bit insane?

It also seems essential that the mint production be a least a bit under optimum, on average, so that if by some fluke they do do the job properly, that set may be worth a tad more money than another apparently identical set. If they get it just right, all sets are perfect and no-one has anything special.

You do all know, I hope, that as soon as the mint have shifted enough of these sets to show some sort of profit, they will find some other cockamamie thing to commemorate, and so on ad infinitum.

This is numismatics flying in smaller and smaller circles till it flies up its own anal orifice.
