Mine had no ghosting at all. I was hoping to see a hint of the old date.

You're gonna hate me robec. I just got my last 3 and one clearly shows date & mm at an angle. I'm stoked! :) I'll post when I can get some pics. Order multiples and there's a better chance of getting something cool imo

Yeah. Its time for the troll to go on the ingnore list. And here I thought insider would be my first. Books is a whole different level of crazy but mixed with hatred, vitriol and self righteousness. His negativity and attacks end now, for me at least.

    Ignored :)

I've already added him. I don't like it when people bring that side of me out. I just couldn't hold back anymore. But now I'll never see another word he types and my demeanor has returned to normal.

    AMEN !!
Thank you for sharing my same exact thoughts and feelings for the past couple of years . I just chose not to ever respond to his never ending soap box speeches .
One day hopefully he and the others will allow the OP to enjoy one single thread without it turning into the same dumpster fire .

Nice coin Morgan!! I hope you enjoy it for years and get the grade you are hoping to receive :)

That's still the only 70 I can recall seeing someone get from one of his pieces. Congrats again on that one

I'm speaking purely as a mod here.

OK look, and this goes for all of you. Plain and simple the subject of this thread is a controversial topic, and it's always going to be a controversial topic. But there's a right way and a wrong way to express your point of view and or opinion. And when it degenerates into the wrong way then a mod has to step in. But believe me when I say this - we'd all rather not. Unfortunately it is our job to do so.

So, some posts have been removed, and I don't want to have to remove any more. In fact I won't, I'll just lock the thread and that will be the end of it.

All of you know what is and what is not acceptable behavior here on this forum, it's not some great secret. And it doesn't matter whether you agree with what is or what isn't acceptable behavior. The only thing that matters is whether or not you adhere to those principles, those rules. So you can act in an acceptable manner or not, that's your choice. But if you choose not then there will be consequences just like there is with all other things in life.

    So make your choices.

This is NOT a coin. A coin is produced by a government. Anything else is a token which includes fantasy issues. Repeat, it is not a coin . It is marketed as a fantasy. It is also a fun piece and a great way to have fun with your peers. If you like it buy it or not. It is what it is. This is my hobby, I do it for fun.

    Are hobo nickels coins?

It is a coin, just not a circulating or official issue. Those are, in the hobby, generally called tokens or medallions to differentiate between official governmental coinage. However, the fact that it is a fantasy issue doesn't mean it isn't a coin.

Defiantly a coin... That's just been altered ;)

I LOVE the wing ghosting. Looks really cool. The only evidence of the previous strike on mine is some of the lettering on the reverse--one can see an "O," and the "Ls" look slightly doubled.

I'm hoping to set up to photograph mine after the holiday. At a quick glance, one shows almost no hint of the host design, one shows some faint hints, and one has a VERY PROMINENT squashed date under the 1964 -- and a fairly strong host image on the back, significantly rotated. Maybe 5-10 degrees?

The proof-like "1909-o" over-strike Morgan Dollars have been slabbed by ANACS as "DMPL" or similar. I expect that the proof-like "1964" over-strike Morgan Dollars will have a similar notation.

Von NotHaus "Liberty Dollars" looked nothing like any existing coins.
Even so, as stated, he was convicted by a jury for "counterfeiting".
Apparently he did not have a very competent lawyer.

Many other entities have issued tokens and things with "One Dollar" one them, or other legends in similitude to US coins on them. For example, I've never heard of a casino getting in trouble because their metal tokens said "One Dollar" on them. The Smithsonian institution endorsed some privately-minted pieces which looked like a plausible US coin with "United States of America" and "One Hundred Dollars" on them (but not the word "COPY"). Nobody ever got in trouble for that.

The difference is that the Liberty Dollar organization attempted to insert their tokens into general commerce to be used as legal tender and to supplant Federal Reserve currency in circulation. Now THAT is something the banking cartel doesn't like.

I don't believe they ever carried out his sentence and ended up on probation for a year instead. Whatever happened inbetween a judge did grant his request for early termination of the supervision.
