Like they said in RoboCop, "I'd buy that for a dollar"

pop the dollar out and sell the SLQ as a "holed coin, not kidding" ... :)

very interesting piece. that'd be something I'd carry in my pocket just to show it off.

    Neat item.

And that is a Type 2 standing liberty quarter due to the hair bun on the back of Liberty's head

What about the lack of stars? Simply worn off? Someone else pointed out to me it could be a 1916. Any thoughts?

With the obverse head design it's impossible it's a 1916.

Nice score nothing looks off, it's real and it's a rare pocket piece! Very cool, I've never seen an encased $1 gold coin, sweet!

Wow, I'd love to see what the listing for that looked like! Was it even in a coin category?

It was several years ago, so I don't fully remember... but I know I look at every single $1 gold and $2 1/2 gold ending everyday, so I think I found it in the $1 gold category.

Wait, this is your latest gold purchase, but it's from several years ago? I think we know you better than that... ;)

Look when the thread is from... lol. About a year ago. Someone messaged me saying it may be a 1916, so I thought I would ask about it here. I don't think it is though. And yes, I have had many many gold since then. I have a few toners I am excited about that should be arriving soon. No way to tell what they will look like in hand though.

Oh, the humiliation -- caught by a necropost.

Edit: I've found that my eBay purchase history sometimes still has live links for auctions from two, three, or even more years ago! It's worth a check.

It's not, the hair is wrong for 16.
