OK, the quick and condensed story, the first part is a little fuzzy though. Back at the last Long Beach show of '07, my wife spotted what I think was this coin in a case, seem to remember it was in an ANACS holder graded AU-58. By the time I came by to look at it again, it was gone. Since that time, it has come up in several auctions, where I was the underbidder in 2 of them. There were other auctions where this coin was bid up much higher (north of $4K), glad I missed on those. After missing again for the 3rd time, a good PCGS forum member offered to sell it to me for what he paid another board member. It's been running slightly north of $2K in the last couple sales, which I figured was OK. He basically said he was overspent on coins for the year and saw how hard I've been trying for the half all this time. I never complained about that - figured other folks wanted it more, and it was a fair 'fight'. After working out this deal over part of this summer, the 1818 half arrived the past week. It's been worth the wait! From what I've heard and read, this coin has made the rounds; I think even the PCGS president owned it at one time. No flipping or a quick sale of this coin from me, I intend to enjoy the ownership of this prize piece. It is one of the best looking Capped Bust examples I've seen, but my gold standard was this unbelievable MS-64 1808 example I saw a few years back. Way out of my price range, but it had unbelievable luster and color too, hopefully my drool marks didn't stain that coin!
