I thought I'd share my first coin I sent in to get graded. I couldn't stop looking at this cent when I found it coin roll hunting so I sent it in. Every roll without all brand new cents in it had some degree of toning so appeared they'd been in there for a while; this was the best one.
@Treashunt the MM is actually not details if you zoom in you can see that the "crud" is actually toning
PCGS, at your service, Treas. This is what it has become. This is a MS64RB, no lie. Still like them? Either way, no discernable collector market value. We're now slabbing damage for the sake of damage. "Oh but Kurt, its PCGS pop. is only 4!"
LOL I'm glad I shared my favorite in the wild find. I don't think its in too bad of shape considering it spent 34 years traveling around. I did get a close up of the date/MM
Or did it? Maybe it spent 33 years in a BU roll before spending a half hour in the throes of terminal abuse.
WHAT? Seriously, if you're pleased and like the coin, I'm genuinely happy for you as that's really all that (ideally) matters, but.... ugh.
Not sure what PCGS was thinking on that one, AU at best. The surrounding area of the mm I can understand, I have seen this area tone naturally. But the chunk of corrosion inside the D, What the? MHO, it looks like the coin I forgot to pull out of my pants pocket before it went into the washer. ps. ( I put coins in between my money fold if they are nice pocket change Some times in my line of work it falls into my pocket, and I got a stack of them there coins on a shelf next to the washin machine. @Jintoh44 My statements are more for the topic of AT vs NT, they can be nice looking coins but some folks understand how they got to look that way.
I only wanted to say, these coins can be very attractive, It is the details of the coin, that we must first find ourselves attracted too.
Yes, "good" is an apt choice of word. But they're NOT perfect. It's just not possible to hold toned copper in stasis. It WILL keep changing, even in PCGS' best tomb.
There we go guys, someone who got "I liked this coin" so wanted it protected. I have no intentions of selling it; its not worth the slab its sitting in which doesn't phase me a bit. Does anyone on this forum collect coins because they enjoy them? >As I've stated on other threads here, and have been proven to be correct, it is easy on an anonymous internet forum to belittle and devalue something someone else enjoys for no other reason then to temporarily inflate ones own ego. Congratulations, most of you have convinced me to give up collecting and stop encouraging my kids to do so, enjoy.
