Nice! Nero is the next target on my 12 Caesar's list. Here's what I already have. Julius Caesar denarius Augustus denarius Claudius As Vespasian denarius Domitian denarius After I get the Nero I'll probably hunt a Titus and then move on to Caligula and the Emperors of 69CE (probably the more challenging portion of the 12 Caesars Set).
Thanks! That Nero as was a lot of fun to ID. I do want a better one though. Heck, why not target the hard ones first?
Super posts everyone!! Here's two more I have---an old Heritage photo, previously slabbed and a recent purchase..... CLAUDIUS, 41-54 A.D. CLAUDIUS and AGRIPPINABronze (16mm, 5.18gm.) a very good way to come to the dark side H8M! nice As! (lol, and i'm really not that forward hahaha!)
Good pickup @Sallent with a nice portrait style to it (I seem to remember you not much interested in bronze coins not long ago....nice you changed your mind ) Here are two middle bronzes of Claudius, one is official, and the other most probably from a spanish mint, but still with a great style (very much looks like Nero Claudius Drusus to my eyes) Claudius, Dupondius TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG P M TR P IMP, head left CERES AVGVSTA, Ceres, veiled and draped, seated left on ornamental throne, holding two corn-ears and a long torch, S C in exergue. 11,20 gr Ref : RCV # 1855, RIC # 94 Claudius, As produced at a "branch mint", AD 41-42 TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG P M TR P IMP, Bare head of Claudius left CONSTANTIAE AVGVSTI, Constantia helmeted standing left holding spear, SC in field 10,84 gr Ref : RCV #1857, Cohen #14 For better understanding of where this might have been minted, see : http://www.forumancientcoins.com/board/index.php?topic=65318.0 Q
Wow, those are great coins. And yes, I caved on bronze 2 months ago. I now have 10 bronze coins in my collection. I figured the whole silver only policy was silly and I was missing out on great opportunities because of that.
Sweet Claudius, Sallent ... Ummm, I have a Claudius fake and a Claudius bake to add to your cool thread ...
