my first roll hunt

bought my first 50 cent roll from the bank today. skunk! oh well I will continue searching for silver.:thumb:

Got skunked roll hunting through $100 worth of halves. A lot of them were marked with a sharpie for some reason on the edge of the coins... They were bank rolled with nothing older than 1971. I got them from a large Credit Union I don't know if that makes a difference or not. :headbang:

 

I had some time to go through some half dollar rolls that I picked up the other day... although I found no silver I did find a 1973-D Double Die Obverse and a 1974-D Double Die Obverse. My camera doesn't take close ups good enough to show them, but I guess I didn't get totally skunked!

 

Nice. What do you suppose the DDOs are worth these days?

 

I really have no idea... this is my first time really searching for varieties. I just picked up a Cherrypicker's Guide last week so I thought I would give it a try. I would grade both of them as somewhere around almost uncirculated. I'll have to research their value a little. I think I also need a more powerful magnifier mine is a 10x which is normally fine for collecting, but to spot varieties (without getting a splitting headache) you probably need something more powerful.

 

I got a 1953 penny today.

 

Wow I thought 10x was good enough to find the DDOs and DDRs! That's my strongest glass. No wonder I ain't found none yet LOL.

I found a wheatie in our spare change cup on the window sill yesterday. Not sure how I missed that one before.

 

I should start looking for errors. They're probably more common than silver now.

 

You might as well if you're roll hunting anyway.
