I just received my first purchase of the year! In my opinion it was worth waiting for. A strong XF coin. It's a 1833 Bust Half Dollar. O-110 with a rarity of 1. It's clean with no bad marks, still has a bit of mint luster but I can't get the camera to pick it up. The fields on both sides, obverse being the strongest, have a light blue color to them. This photo shows a wee bit of that color but it's much better in hand. It's really a beautiful coin.
Reasonably nice XF/AU coin. Looks like it might have been lightly cleaned a while ago. I wouldn't kick her out of the box.
I thought there was an associate membership option now, which only requires new members to own 30 Bust halves...?
Sadly, I have only 1 low grade example. Hope to get more, but I suffer from too many coins I would like, but not enough money!
Sometimes in order to get the coin I want, I save my money until it comes along. I just stop buying until I have the cash to afford what I'm looking for. It's difficult but doable .
That's only because Frank has all of them locked up in a closet and few remain on the market........ He's done the same with Barbers too......
From the BHNC website... Before being considered for BHNC membership, candidates must: 1.) Be sponsored by a current BHNC member in good standing. This can best be accomplished by personal contact, and getting to know that member. This is of the utmost importance, as we have had members in the past who later proved that they did not join for the best interest of the organization. 2.) For each membership type: a. Regular Membership: Own at least 100 different Bust half dollar die marriages attributed to Overton. For candidates who only collect the early Flowing Hair and Draped Bust type half dollars, the requirement is lowered to 30 examples. Note: Multiple die states or documented sub-varieties count as only one die marriage. b. Associate Membership: Own at least 30 different Bust half dollar die marriages attributed to Overton. For candidates who only collect the early Flowing Hair and Draped Bust type half dollars, the requirement is 10 examples. c. Junior Membership (under 18 years old) The candidate must own at least 5 different Bust half dollar die marriages attributed to Overton. This is new to me since the last time I checked into membership. I may have to look for a sponsor again.
Every time I look at this coin I get a good feeling. Must be that tingling up and down my spine. Lol I do like it!
