Hey Everyone, It's been a while since I posted a thread, so I figured why not when my latest coin arrived. In general, I don't go after provincials. There are a few types I am looking for (non-imperial denominations), but they are low on my priority list. However, I am very fond of Flavian provincial denarii, and I thought this example from the Antioch mint demonstrated exceptional style. I was smitten with this coin when I first saw it at NYINC and decided that I had to have it a few weeks later. This coin is best described as an imperial denomination from a provincial mint. Without further ado, here it is! Vespasian (AD 69-79) AR Denarius (17mm, 3.39 g). Antioch mint. AD 72-73. IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG, Laureate head left / VICTORIA AVG, Victory standing right on globe, holding wreath and palm branch. RIC II 1547. RPC II 1921 (online plate coin). Ex Viggo Collection of Flavian Imperial Coins from provincial mints. Ex Dr. Martina Dieterle Ex Numismatica Ars Classica Auction 125 (24 June 2021), lot 518. Ex Helios Auction 4 (14 October 2009), lot 292. Ex Gorny & Mosch (14 October 2002), lot 500. Please post your Flavian provincial denarii or anything else you feel is relevant.

Hansen Had I not gotten this one I certainly would have been interested in yours. It is a very nice coin. However I am very happy for many reasons with this one. Congrats.
Very cool! Apparently the ancients bug has bitten me and it's in the blood now, apparently incurable. I have very little to show that would be relevant, I have a few denarii and a recent, and exciting one for me anyway, an Aureus of Faustina the Elder. Fun thread!
