Thank you to all who participated in the contest! The contest is now officially CLOSED. It looks like I can't edit my original post, so I'll post the pictures of the prize here: THE PRIZE A triplet of nicely toned 1940-P Lincoln Cents. I picked these up about a year ago and never opened them from the "triple" flip these came in. All three have nice gold toning and a couple have hints of green and rose as well (let me know if the pictures are too small; I inserted them as "thumbnails") THE RESULTS I was surprised that a lot of guesses were off; in fact, no one got more than 2 correct answers! Some were off by a little and others by a lot...but everyone's guesses that were not correct were always below the actual grade -- the only exception to this was Chrsitian Gonzales' and Sean the Collector's guesses of the Lincoln (65 and 66, respectively). I'll take it as a compliment to robec's photography, who photographs all coins superbly without hiding any hits, scratches, etc. (which is probably why many under-guessed the grade). Here are the actual grades PCGS gave them (I got Truviews for a couple of them; Phil took CoinFact photos of the rest of them on accident!): 1. 1965 SMS Lincoln Cent - MS64 RB I predicted 64 because of the large carbon spots on the reverse and what seems to be scuffing below the memorial (though it may be a result of poor quality control), and it looks like PCGS agreed. My biggest concern was the dreaded "QC" label, though it looks like PCGS thought it was MA enough for it to grade (I agree) 2. 1883 NO CENTS Liberty "V" Nickel - MS64 Also expected this grade. The discoloration in Lib's hair, the nicks on the neck and the central gash above the reverse "V" kept it from the gem grade. The luster (especially on the reverse) is that of a gem+ though. 3. 1945-S Micro S Mercury Dime - MS66 Expected the 66 grade, though I thought it might hit FB (very long shot) and possibly 67. 4. 1958-D Washington Quarter - MS66 A small surprise for me; I thought the hit on the cheek and the gash on the eagle's wing would knock it down to a 65. Glad PCGS thought otherwise. 5. 1958 Franklin Half Dollar - MS66 This was my biggest surprise. 6. 1958-D Franklin Half Dollar - MS65 FBL I thought this could hit a 66...but I think that the lack of booming luster brought it down. The FBL was expected. To recap: 1. MS64 RB 2. MS64 3. MS66 4. MS66 5. MS66 6. MS65 FBL That makes green18 and gbroke tied for the winner, for guessing 2 out of the 6 correct answers! Please post a # from 1 to 20; I'll use a RNG on my calculator to choose a winner. Congrats to the both of you! Thanks to all who participated in this contest, and feel free to post your thoughts after seeing alternate (i.e: Phil's) photos and the actual grades. -CB
