I purchased this from Mark Breitsprecher this week: Limetanus Denarius of 82 BC Obv. Mercury, Rev. Odysseus and his dog Argos. I have been looking for an example that I liked for quite a while and this one did it for me. Please feel free to share your thoughts and show your examples of this type.

I believe anyone owning one of these coins should have read the Odyssey so they will know the story of Argos. I had to read it in college in Greek so I got deep into the core of the matter allowing me to have a fourree of the type.
I saw what you did. Agreed, although I do not read Greek, I have The Odessey with English on one page, and Greek on the opposing page. Read it a couple times. Fun to try interpreting the Greek as I read along. Wonderful plates in the book also.

Great coin Michael! I'll have to admit to never having read The Odyssey but which I will need to remedy in the near future. I have though been reading about these Roman saw-toothed coins and found an interesting article in which Harold Mattingly classifies and dates "Roman 'Serrati'". The Limetanus Denarius is placed into Class IV dating between years 86-71 B.C. and about which Mattingly states:
