  1. Sweet! Congrats, I don't know about the grade but I know a nice Morgan when I see one!

Just wanted to reiterate that your 1st Morgan dollar is a Beauty! Since that part got "poofed" by a Moderator on my first post in this thread :) I would be a proud owner of her as my first, considering my first Morgan looked like it was dropped off the Empire State Building some years ago, picked up by a street sweeping machine and dragged from Manhattan to Boston just before being picked up by a lowly crack head, who then kept it in his mouth till he fell asleep. Somehow it ended up in my grandfathers "culls" and then was given to me when I graduated High School. So yes, your coin rocks and I would be proud to have that in my SDB.

I feel MS 60-62. I believe a ms 64 grade is too generous. Unless the coin would appear stronger in hand.

I figured I'd bump this thread with new pictures. All comments welcome.

Nice looking coin. Probably dipped, and retoning years ago, but nice. Would definitely slab--don't think it is quite up there at high grade MS, but looks Au 58 to MS 63 to me. The somewhat weak strike would prevent a higher grade. I like the coin for eye appeal, though. Not positive if there is wear or just a weak strike, so that is why I am hedging.

YES, I do think so!! After looking at it carefully, I think it was dipped, but was a very old dip. As such, the TPGs tend to grade Morgans like that---in any case, it is an attractive coin. Sometimes, I get a bit overzealous about Morgans, as if I know everything. I am far from omniscient, and do make plenty of mistakes. There are a couple of folks here who don't like me, as I tend to "call it as it is" with regard to the coin--I never mean that personally, but am discussing the coin, not them.

The photographs made a huge difference--to me, it was the difference between a "cleaned--details coin," and a retoned Morgan, after an old dip. I still am not sure about whether or not there is very light wear on the coin, or a weak strike, so I will continue hedging between Au-58 and low-mid MS. :)

Decent pictures can make a world of difference. Glad I decided to reshoot this one. :)

Tough call on my small scratched screen either a solid au -58 or a softly struck ms 63-4 I'd say 63 due to the weak strike and the mark on the cheek but a tpg might say better either way a nice coin with good visual appeal I personally will often buy a high au with great color or eye appeal over an average lower ms grade any day I have a beauty au 58 trade dollar ill put against most unc
