My first Maximinus Thrax denarius

In an essay I called him "the Paul Bunyan of Roman emperors." He was undoubtedly very big and strong for his time. That was how he broke into the Roman upper class. Septimius Severus appointed him to be an imperial body guard because of his size. Once he came to power, many in the Roman Senate viewed him with fear and considered him to be a "Roman barbarian."</p><p><br /></p><p>Maximinus became an important figure in the history of the year 238.
