    OBV Christ Bearded and Nimbate , wearing tunic and kolobion, seated upon a throne without back: r. hand raised in benediction , holds gospels in l.

    REV Half length figure of emperor on l. and of Virgin , holding between them Patriarchal cross on long shaft. Emperor wears stemma, divitision, collar piece, and paneled loros of simplified type; holds anexikakia in r. hand. Virgin wears tunic and maphorion. Manus Dei in upper left field.

    Weight 4.5gm

    Thicker metal than Constantinople issue, very difficult to differentiate between the same issue from different mints.

    Wow, some great gold coins here!

    It more than qualifies as it was struck during a very important and troubled period, and Doukas Vatatzes may be less known than the likes of Justinian or Anastasious but he has a legendary reputation. He was a pretty cool felow. He is known as the reposed King and the legend that comes with this is very interesting:
