So are you now saying that you would need to add a total of 12' to each cable? If so that will change my answer.

Or the fact that the ground may not be perfectly level 300 feet from the tower.:D
PM sent, thanks for the chance.

From my observations, and knowledge base, if you have a Legnth --- that can be considered ONE unit, and if you add an amount to it, then it is Legnth plus the amount, not Legnth plus twice the amount to have the amount added at each end. It shouldn't matter how you divide the amount added to fit at either end of the Legnth.

Well, rlm asked if it was 3' added to each end or 6' add to each end. Mizozuman answered with 6'. That would seem to me that he is now saying that it is a total of 12' added. In the original question it seemed that it was a total of 6'. I am just making sure I am clear. I answered with it being a total of 6'.

I'm erecting a cellphone tower that is 450' tall, and I will need steel cable to stabilize the tower. The cable is anchored to the tower at a height of 400'. Four massive concrete blocks have been poured into the ground, each being positioned north, east, south and west from the tower so that the eyebolt anchor that is embedded in each block is exactly 300' from the tower. I also know that "I will need to add 6' to the length of each cable to anchor each one properly to the tower and the eyebolt". How much steel cable will I need?

What are the dimensions of the tower at the 400ft anchor point?

    Gee whiz, I hated geometry...

I think it's trig that you need.

Since trigonometry is not possible, I'm stuck making a small model. Toothpicks and string..

sorry, kasia just making a point. and it's geometry, i'm doing this right now in my class.

But it's math that you need. I doubt a small model will do.

well, unless you have a scale model, it won't help much.

Guess you're right about the geometry. Funny how I always associated that particular thing with Trig???? Who knows, I was bad at anything more than basic math in HS.

There are two ways to read that sentence - really. I suspect you are trying to say it is "anchor to ..... and anchor to ....". However, it can also be read "add to ..... and add to ........"

@rim'scent true. i'm trying to think of a way to put this without giving away something.
