[QUOTE="4everNana, post: 540301, member: 17653"]I just wanted to share what a wonderful time I had at my first coin show, here in Livermore CA! I spoke to a few of the sellers, told them up front I was a newbie and not really in the market to buy just yet, but just wanted to learn more. Each dealer took the time to give me tips in what to look for in coins, storage options, etc. They made no pressure to buy, and they were all genuinely helpful and patient with me. Also found some buyers who I chatted up with, and they too shared so much great information! It was a great time, and I’m planning to visit at the local coin collector club’s next meeting.

The other observation I made today, and after having spent a few days prior looking around on eBay, is that eBay pricing is way overpriced (I can just see most of you reading this, shaking your heads and thinking, really!?? no kidding!!). I found a number of coins that I had seen and liked on eBay for at least half the price at the show, and the same quality if not better. And the nice thing is you can touch and really study each coin before buying at these shows.

I will admit, I broke weak, saw a Morgan dollar that I really liked, and bought it, after saying I wouldn’t buy anything today! I couldn’t help myself!! It’s a 1884, seems like AU quality, paid $30. Ok, I may have overpaid a bit, but I’m in California after all, all prices here are jacked up! But I liked it, it’s a date I didn’t have, and it adds to my tiny collection of Morgans that I inherited from my father in law, so I’m happy! :thumb:

All in all, today was a wonderful learning experience!
