I started with Roman Imperial, sprawled into Greek, and then set about building an English collection...... so I'm definitely not looking to expand into yet another realm of coins at present. But I saw this relatively inexpensive Maurice Tiberius Follis and just had to have it. It's not the greatest condition, but it has a cool look to it. Plus, it has to be what I assume is the earliest depiction of a ruler curling a dumbbell!!
Looks pretty nice to me! It is astounding how many Byzantine bronzes are out there, most in poorer condition than this one. But, identifying Byzantine bronzes is an art form if you do not have much of an inscription. Some of the coins are quite beautiful, others plain crude, but all of them are fascinating one way or another,
