Got my first art bar purchase. These are 4 Franklin Mint 70s bank bars. Each is 1,000 grains of sterling silver. I paid $135 for them. That comes out as follows: 1,000 grains x 4 = 4,000 grains. 4,000 grains divided by 480 grains/tr. oz. = 8.33 oz. 8.33oz. x .925 purity = 7.71 oz. pure silver. $17.51/oz.
Congrats. In place of "art" or artful designs, I see corporate logos (brand identities of financial institutions), so I personally would refer to these as just silver bars or as you called them 'bank bars', rather than 'art bars', however they may fall into a particular category of 'financial' art bar collecting and there may be no hairs to split here. Regardless, you've got some silver and that's a nice thing. Nice pick ups, enjoy! :thumb:
I plan to buy more if the price is right or if the bars are something I'm interested in. The interesting thing about the bank bars is that the vast majority of those early 70s banks are now long gone. Most were absorbed by merger. Some simply failed. They have their own history.
Congrats on your first silver art bar purchase. I believe that there are a total of 50 of these 1000-grain sterling silver bars with each bar showing a bank from each state. Before you know it, you will end up being very addicted to '70's silver art bars.
It`s true.....it`s happened to many of Us, and there`s much worse that We could be addicted to as well.
