My first ancients

!!! The first uncleaned coins I got were from them at amzon, they were all slugs, Ironicaly one was an "ancient counterfiet" edit: not a modern one.

Are mine new counterfeits or old ones?

 

In retrospect, its actually pretty likely that the seller wasn't aware. These same fakes first turned up in the massive bulk lots that dealers buy from Europe.

It would be good news to learn it's not an ongoing scam. If it's a fluke, then we'll forgive, forget and move on!

 

I got 10 (from amazon), all low quality but all were ancients
8 constantine era slugs (2 were almost attribuable), 1 greek slug, and this one, which was the best outa all of them, its a copper core of an ancient counterfiet,

but they were what I expected.

 

The "master" minters in Bulgaria have been cranking this garbage out for several years, and have even gotten good at making them dirty and aged.

 

oh man, the old LRB uncleaned fakes...they have been popping up for years. I kinda wish I could get a few of these in a batch of coins as I find them quite interesting. The thought someone took the time and effort to mint up these cheap little coins in an effort to make a batch of authentic slugs a little better is almost funnt. FG...just buy uncleaned from a some of the reliable dealers...you might not get the nicest looking coins but they wont be fakes like these. To be honest, its rather rare to get these in a lot so you are almost lucky. I would NOT send them back if I got them. I have been wanting to gather a set of examples of these odd little LRB fakes. So if you want, PM me and maybe we can make a trade. I would be happy to send you a few REAL LRB in exchange for them. I want a few examples of these in my collection and on my site.
