I would crack it out. ;) I would want it where I could hold a 1500 year old coin not a piece of plastic. :) I just want it slabbed so I know they are real.

Why not just put it on here, and we can determine if it is authentic? You have Ardy, Randy, Drusus, Scottishmoney, Spock, Phoenix, and several others that can chime in.

I've bought from this guy as well, my coins are similar...a couple of blobs.

I assumed that that was just the luck of the draw.

    Did ya get any fakes?
Oh yeah "grandpas" name is actually "Lauren". Does not sounds like a mans name, much less a grandpas name. :kewl:

rofl maybe Lauren's not telling us something???

I don't think any of them are fakes, but one of them is 3x as thick as any of the others, covered in more junk than I can imagine. I just have to trust that there's a coin under there somewhere...which I think there is, since I saw a faint glimmer of bronze somewhere. But it hasn't come off with distilled water, olive oil, and a knife = P

I was thinking if I stuck it in the microwave the crud would come off. :goofer:  J/K
I can see lettering on one side of it but it just peed me off about the fakes so I have just had them sitting on the fireplace (which we have no use for in Florida) mantel.
I will go all rambo on that one tonight. :goof:

Guess what I just did.
Yes, I just stuck it in the microwave for 5 minutes.
I stuck it in a glass of water so it wouldn't arc and nuked it, and it did absolutely nothing. :goof:
I made a video of it that I will post to youtube. :mouth:

Since Garrett logged in under his Mom's username earlier, I wonder if his Mom logged in under his and that's his Mom talking instead of him?

Lol! That stupid uncleaned one is STILL unaffected after vinegar, totally awesome cleaner, sterile water, being nuked in the microwave, and being soaked in hydrochloric acid for 15+ minutes. :headbang:

Sometimes fizzles the gunk off. Do it in a container inside another incaseit fizzles over if you do.

    Hi freakygarrettc,

When I read your first post, I was going to recommend the "forumancientcoins" website for attributing. If you can make out the reverse of the coin, you can download a spreadsheet for each reverse type that will usually nail the attribution for you.

I bought my first lot of 'uncleaned ancients' less than a month ago, so I don't have much more advice to give about that.

I would also like to say that before you buy from an eBay seller, for almost anything, check out their feedback history on the "toolhaus" website. Here is a link to grandpa's history, and it doesn't look good. If you had viewed it beforehand you probably would have never gone through with the deal.

Don't let the creep get you down, and good luck next time,
