Nice first coin @cwart ! Your pic is good. You can make the phone a bit more stable my setting it on a can with the coin at the base. Then you only touch the phone to take the pic. (This was a suggestion in an earlier thread here.) A recent coin purchase. I do not normally go for Roman Imperial coins, but liked the scale on this one.
Yeah, be careful though. As soon as TIF finds out, she'll be relentless in enticing you to procure one.
@cwart...Very nice coin to start.... Here's my very first ancient from many years ago...I was so naive and inexperienced I didn't even realise it was a rare coin as the emperors name was misspelt... Licinius I (RIC VII#155 Arles)-Unlisted- Licinius I AE Follis 20mm/3.43gr (Emperors name Misspelt) Obverse-IMP LICINVS PF AVG- laureate, cuirassed bust right Reverse-REV SOLI INVICTO COMITI- Sol standing right, looking left, chlamys across chest and over his left arm, holding globe and raising right hand. C-S across fields Exergue-PARL- minted 313-318AD Arles Que suerte! Paul
Congratulations, you are off to a good start. I completly understand the tremor thing. It helps steady your hand if you don't hang on tightly to the camera/phone. Try to relax your hand, that helps me a lot. Cheers
Thanks for the responses everyone!! Its been a great welcome to the dark side... The coins posted have been amazing and its nice to see what everyone else has been collecting. @rrdenarius I will be giving the can trick a try for photographs when I don't want to get out all of my equipment and set it up... Thanks!!
@Black Friar for me it seems like the more I concentrate on the hand, the worse it is.. lol The only time its an issue is with cameras and the rare occasions I've been shooting so it's not all bad.
I’ve always liked the look of Greek coins, the ones I have really liked have been out of my price range though.
Welcome @cwart ! I'm posting a coin representative of my first non-Judaean coin. It was an Indo-Scythian similar to this one. I purchased it as a Christmas gift for our church organist long before I had any intention of collecting ancient coins.
This is another form of Vota from Constantine II Caesar, London mint. Constantine II died not long after his father so coins of his showing the rank of Augustus are less often seen than those as Caesar. Some of them are easy to confuse with coins of Constantine I. This is Constantine II Augustus from the Alexandria mint.
