That has a beautiful rainbow color toning. Very nice for a first or one of many. Congratulations! Here is a sister coin of Maximianus, but not near as nice. MAXIMIANUS AR Argenteus OBVERSE: MAXIMIANVS AVG, laureate head right REVERSE: VIRTVS MILITVM, four tetrarchs sacrificing before walls with 6 turrets Struck at Ticinum, 295 AD 2.6g, 18mm RIC VI 18b
Very nice; one of the best "1st purchases" I've seen. For the record, any high-grade argenteus with this multi-colored toning almost certainly was originally part of a hoard handled by Münzen und Medaillen Basel several decades back. Most likely a pedigree could be found. Phil Davis
Thanks! I just collect what I like, which is usually very high-grade and attractive world coins. It can be from anywhere, although most of it is German States because i love the intricacy of their designs and their consistent high quality. Here are my other coins and medals, all graded by PCGS, dates ranging from 1727 to 1933. MS68 MS67 MS67 SP66 SP66 MS67 MS67 MS68 MS67+
I saw that one offered earlier today or yesterday. Baldwin's, I think. I remember how struck I was by it. Congrats.
Whatever you do, don't drop it!! That is some coin alright, congrats. You should chat with @panzerman, you have similar taste!
Ah... I remember my first ancient... it definitely wasn't as nice as this one... by number four I had upgraded considerably, though.
Fantastic first purchase and an absolutely stunning coin! I can't wait to see what you'll treat our eyes to seeing next.
