Very nice coin, congrats on scratching that off the list! Here's mine: Price 2710, uncertain Western Asia Minor mint.
Welcome, Mo ... congrats on the sweet OP-addition (very pretty coin) All I have is this imitative baby ... it has a pretty cool counter-mark Lycia Phaselis revision of Alex III of Macedon 205-204 BC Identified and authenticated by David Sear ... unfortunately, the counter-mark kinda crushed the poor dude's snout!!
Sorry, I forgot to add something kinda interesting ... David Sear mentioned that it was rare that they counter-marked the reverse (cool, eh?) ... he gave it "historical interest"
I have a lifetime Alexander tetradrachm, better than most not as good as some, I could show it, but this is more fun. Roman Republic Province of Macedonia Thessalonika Mint Quaestor Aesillas (BC 90-70) AR Tetradrachm 28 mm x 16.50 grams Obverse: Flowing hair bust of Alexander the Great, Greek legend, MAKEDONWN (Macedonians) TH mint mark behind bust Reverse: Club of Hercules center, Coin Chest left field, Quaestor's chair right field. Surround be a wreath. Latin Legend - AESILLAS Ref:BMC 81-83; Dewing 1224-1225
Believe it or not, but I do not have an Alexander Tet. Wanna gimme one? (maybe if I ask this enough, I will get lucky one day, eh?)
I don't either. I'm just not interested enough in ancient Greeks in general to put down money for one.
Anyone in favor of starting a collection to help Bing get an Alexander tet? I'm sure JA would be willing to part with his if we ask him nicely. I'd be willing to donate $30 towards it. Anyone else on board? I think Bing deserves it.
Well, you sure ain't getting mine. I'm taking that one with me to the grave like a greedy pharaoh of old. I wonder what archaeologists will make of me if they ever open my tomb and find an Alexander III tet and the remains of a box of Cuban cigars. Maybe I should throw in a token with the seal of the President of the United States. I'd love my carcass to be mistaken for the remains of a president a couple of hundred years down the line by those archaeologists.
OK, I'll donate $30. Oh wait. It's me your donating for. I'll take back my donation then. One of these days, I'll find one I want bad enough to lay out the cash. Till then, I'll just keep whining.
