If you don't mind me asking, how much over spot did you pay for this? I know its slabbed and graded perfect.

I think it's beautiful. I have yet to acquire an AGE. I'm saving for the Reverse Buffalo.

Guys, do you recall how far over spot you paid for the MS70 DCAM Eagle and the Reverse Proof Buffalo ?

Looks like Proof premiums have come down a bit over the last few years.

Gold fell several hundred dollars since this thread was started. Modern gold will take some hit in any grade because of that

Actually, gold was around $1,200 when this thread started, which is where it is today. I think the premiums had remained 'sticky' on the downside from the decline that began in late-2011.

The premium % has fallen very gradually, which is what I would expect. If people don't want gold, they won't want Proofs, to an extent.

I don't remember when those came out in all honesty. You are right if he bought it the day before the thread, if it was a few months prior it was still around 1500ish at the start of the year.

That is generally true. Plus the whole price wave of the high price spike when it is brand new that generally falls some as the next new greatest thing gets all the attention. Some items it climbs back up as people realized they missed out others it never recovers

    Bingo....you nailed it.

Excitement + Newness + Rising Bullion Price (or at least no prolonged slump) = Premium Prices for Unique Coins

The Mint may have detailed records going back a while as to what price they sold regular American Gold Eagles and the Proofs. If we could get that, it would probably track the actual secondary prices.

I don't think they have it on their site (I've never seen it at least if it is there) but they definitely know what the sale price was for everything.

Wow, check out the Deep Cameo on this coin. I've seen fractionals that looked this dark but not sure I've seen a 1 oz. showing this contrast. I don't think it's the photography:

Don't have one of these yet, but would consider it if the premiums to spot gold fell. Want to do more research and find out if they fell in the past to 20-30% premium. Right not60-70% premium seems rich.

And check out these Reverse Proof Buffalo and a regular Buffalo Ultra Cameo pics. I know it's not apple-to-apples (can't find a DCAM or UC RP Buffalo). But note that regular one looks better and apparently it's only because of the lighting !
