    Yes I agree I'm also a newbie at coin collecting and the redbook helps alot on history, mints, and total production per year and per mint location. Definitely it's a must have for collectors. Great finds. When I found my first steel penny and then finding the reason why they were steel really peaked my interest on knowing more about the history of our currency.     JUST LOOKED AT MY 1953-1954 RED BOOK. "...during the critical war year 1943 the Treasury Department resorted to the use of zinc coated steel for our cents." p. 83. They were valued in Unc. $.10

    The S and D mints in uncirc are worth a bit more than the Philly.
    But, on the coin shown, we don't see the reverse. You get a lot of scrug
    with the steelies.
