The coins I chose span the ancient world much as my interests do. So I will list them as they fall into my top ten at this moment, otherwise I'll be wrestling with this until next December LOL 1.) Tetradrachm of Ptolemy II; P-I portrait/Eagle, Alexandria, 285-246 BC 2.) Tetraobol of the Chalcidian league;Apollo/Chitara, Olynthus, 432-348 BC 3.) Oh, man @Mikey Zee , you KILLED it this year! Great coins... I could take them ALL! Great picks! I am still intrigued by the Roma/Roma 115-114 BCE Denarius...
Great stuff, LOVE the toning on the Ptolemy II & Parthenope. I also like the Elagabalus. Congrats on a good year.
Thank for the kind words everyone!! For now, I guess it's how I numbered them but I'll probably change my mind tomorrow LOL
That is an exceptionally great set of coins, the detail on that Tetraobol is fantastic hard to believe it is circa 400BC. Congrats on a great collection.
What a wonderful group! Each coin has something special: the didrachm with its cameo-like toning; the Elagabalus with sensitive portrait and desirable galley reverse; the Constantine follis with comical depiction of Sol, etc. Looks like it was a very good year for your collection!
All very good scores, and I probably would have put your number one at the top as well. You and I have similar collecting habits/strategies I think.
LOL I suppose you would Master Noob, since you sold it to me Like everyone else---especially to a 'generalist' like me--- it's nearly impossible to compile a list that we would feel comfortable with even by the very next day. I have about 10 RR denarius that would tie for #10 and perhaps 10 other types that would tie for each progressing digit until I ran through the 70 coins I purchased during 2016. I think I'm going to keep a monthly favorite log this January to make it easier to compile a list next December Obviously, it's been a great year for all of us!!! Congrats to all who have posted their favorites. I'm looking forward to viewing the threads of the 'stragglers' among us who still haven't posted
I think I like #2 best but it is hard to compare when using seller photos that vary so much. It is not the best image. I hope 2017 sees you taking pictures as good as your coins deserve.
I am finding it very hard to narrow down my list. I think I am at 21 at the moment. I am trying to wait until husbands Christmas present comes in, that coin has to make the list.
