The detail this cent has is very nice still in good shape. What y'all think? Found while roll searching a while ago. CM190116-210601002.jpg CM190116-210748004.jpg

Very nice, especially for a 102 year old circulated coin... I can see why you like it :)

I found 250 wheats while searching from June till fall. And this is the best one I have in the teens.

Shrews, anytime I can see all the lines in the wheat ears, I call it a winner. Great find!

Nice pick, couple corrosion spots, but that's pretty typical. Get a book on grading (ANA or Photograde) and grade while you're searching. You'll develop sharp skills in a short time. Best of luck and keep your eyes peeled for RPM's and DD's.

Two days ago, I found my VERY FIRST wheat cent (1953) in change from the supermarket. First one in my entire life.

Could the thick rim indicate that this was a proof?

Not in this case, because it’s from Denver. And, no proofs were made in 1917.

For Philadelphia mint coins during the teens there are some lively discussions about coins with wide rims and sharp details. Then it comes down to microscopic die scratches to settle the debate.

Here’s an example that’s ridiculously nice where you need to check all the diagnostic marks to be sure it’s not a proof.

Edit: So sorry! I meant to congratulate you. That’s something I would have been delighted to find when I was coin roll hunting in the mid ‘60’s. Very nice find.
