Sir, it is the FS-029 or at NGC VP-002 I have been doing this for quite a few years now. The coin will be in tommarrow from NGC. It was graded 1943 DDO (FS-029) VP-002. MS 66 5FS
When I entered the original number into the ebay system just to get an idea of Population for the coin it said 6 full steps. When I resubmitted for the error DDO to be added the coin came back MS-66 5 steps. Still all in all not a bad buy for the price I gave for it.
Just going through my nickels and came across a pretty decent 1939 d. Will say my best nickel so far.
Two reasons - so the DDO designation can be placed on the slab and so he can pay them grading fees one more time.
You are correct, so I could get the DDO Designation but I purchased this coin for only $30.00 at a coin show not even realizing that it was the Double Die until I arrived home. I couldn't believe that I didn't even cherry it. It was good ole dumb blind luck. When I got home that evening I studied it and I couldn't believe my eyes. I then sent it off in hopes that I could get a higher grade but even if it wasn't able to be upgraded I wanted the DDO on the holder so there wouldn't be any controversy when it came time to sell this gem.
Bought a new nickel at a coin show today. This nickel screemed "buy me". The dealer said he had just bought rolls from an older gentalman that was the original owner and all the nickels look like this one. Enjoy the view . Darryl
Thanks Twiggs and Ed The luster on this guy really shows you how good it can get. The pictures don't do it justice. Glad you like it! Darryl
GDJMSP, you would think that they would atleast give a courtesy call to the owner of the coin to let them know that it is worth a lot more $$$ slabbed as a Doubled die
