Celtic potin coin of the Senones tribe (50bc), the guys who sacked Rome back in 390 bc.</p><p><br /></p><p>2. 1938 Australian crown, mintage of only 100,000. These coins commemorate the coronation of George VI, but mainly as a young nation no older than 38 years, we wanted to act up to the big guys like Europe and the US, so we made crown sized coins but only for 1937 and 1938.</p><p><br /></p><p>3. Trajan denarius with the inscriptions GER, DAC denoting his victory over Germanic tribes and the Dacian king Decebalus, also this coin was minted in his later years when Rome was at its peak.</p><p><br /></p><p>4. Italy 20 cents, I just like the art!</p><p><br /></p><p>5. Australian 1927 Florin commemorating the Parliament house opening, one of the most artistic ‘vintage’ looking Australian coin.</p><p><br /></p><p>6. Vespasian, the man who came from the bottom of the society and saved Rome from collapse.</p><p><br /></p><p>7. 1793 French 12 deniers featuring Louis XVI, the very year he got executed, so much history in that coin!</p><p><br /></p><p>8. Antoninus Pius, If I were to live in Rome it would be under his reign.</p><p><br /></p><p>9. Commodus, classic example of nepotism gone wrong.</p><p><br /></p><p>10. My first Vespasian, and my ‘largest’ denomination of denarius.</p><p><br /></p><p>11. Constantin follis featuring the classic Roman symbol of she-wolf feeding Romulus and Remus, also my first roman coin.</p><p><br /></p><p>12. 3000-2700 year old Chinese bone shell money!</p><p><br /></p><p>13. Alexander III lifetime drachm, an iconic guy, and an iconic coin.</p><p><br /></p><p>14.Faustina Senior, wife of Antoninus Pius, probably the most revered woman in Rome.</p><p><br /></p><p>15. Sabina, wife of Hadrian, I wondered which emperor had ponytail when I first saw this coin!</p><p><br /></p><p>16. Constantine camp gate coin, a cheap and classic roman starter coin.</p><p><br /></p><p>17. Valerian, the only roman emperor to die in captivity!</p><p><br /></p><p>18. Chola copper stater, my first ever ancient coin.</p><p><br /></p><p>19. 2450 years old Mesembria Corinthian helmet coin, the helmet on this coin looks kinda phallic!</p><p><br /></p><p>20. 2525 Y/o Ionia 1/12th stater, I like the strike and artwork. This is the coin that made me dwell into the ancients.</p><p><br /></p><p>21. Domitian, I like it’s Minerva reverse.</p><p><br /></p><p>22. The infamous Caracalla, the kid who killed his brother and massacred a whole city (Alexandria) all because he was offended. I particularly like the high relief portrait on this coin.</p><p><br /></p><p>23. 1511 Lithuanian half-groat, my oldest (Gregorian) dated coin.</p><p><br /></p><p>24. 1915 Perth mint sovereign, my only ‘standard’ gold coin.</p><p><br /></p><p>25. Nerva, the first of the 5 good emperors, I just like the centring, toning and the overall look.</p><p><br /></p><p>26. Seleucid tetradrachm, I like the Zeus reverse and my first tetradrachm.</p><p><br /></p><p>27. Papua New Guinea shillings, peculiar coin.</p><p><br /></p><p>28.Hadrian, controversial yet an iconic emperor who travelled all over his empire.</p><p><br /></p><p>29. 1850 French Republican coin, I love the eye appeal.</p><p><br /></p><p>30.Edward I penny, a classic English medieval coin.</p><p><br /></p><p>31. 1797 UK 2 pence, another classic English coin, weighing nearly 2 ozs!</p><p><br /></p><p>32. Indian 17th century Mysore Kanthirava gold Fanam, my smallest coin at only 5mm!</p><p><br /></p><p>33. Indian 19th cen Travancore gold Fanam, my first gold coin.</p><p><br /></p><p>34. 11th century Chola gold coin featuring their symbol tiger, and their enemy symbols fishes (Pandya) and off-centre bow (Chera) behind tiger, all under an umbrella to denote their conquest, so much story.</p><p><br /></p><p>35. Panama 1904 2 ½ cent. My smallest modern coin at 10 mm.</p><p>36. Domitian coin minted under his elder brother Titus’s reign.</p><p><br /></p><p>37. 18th cen French-Indian coin, has a high relief Fleur-de-lis and the colony name Puducherry in Tamil language, it looks like an ancient coin minted in the Tamil region, if not for that iconic French symbol.</p><p><br /></p><p>38. 5th century Kumaragupta coin, silver coins of the 5th century are hard to come by.</p><p><br /></p><p>39. Constantine gloria coin, another cheap and a classic roman starter coin.</p><p><br /></p><p>40. 18th cen Cambodia ‘Hamza’ bird coin, another ancient looking modern coin.</p><p><br /></p><p>41. Roman republican coin featuring Apollo and the iconic roman quadriga.</p><p><br /></p><p>42. Another one of my Italian favourites, bee on a poppy!</p><p><br /></p><p>43. Trajan denarius of his first year of reign 98-99 AD, also one of my best-looking denarii.</p><p><br /></p><p>44. Achaemenid empire siglos, 400-350 bc, a chunky nugget I got only for 10 bucks!</p><p><br /></p><p>45. 15th century Ottoman acke of Mehmed II, the guy who ended the Roman empire once and for all.</p><p><br /></p><p>46. Denarius of Nero, I like fat bust of the famous emperor!</p><p><br /></p><p>47. Another roman republican denarius, featuring Roma herself and Macedonian shield, my oldest Roman coin, 127 bc.</p><p><br /></p><p>48. Legionary denarius (xx) of Mark Antony 32bc, a time period considered to be the turning point of the Roman civilization.</p><p><br /></p><p>49. Septimius Severus denarius 200AD, the ancient coin closest to being a mint-state in my collection.</p><p><br /></p><p>50. Gandhara Janapada 1/8 Satamanas, modern day Afghanistan, 600bce, the cheapest coin to tick off the year 600bc!</p><p><br /></p><p>51. Byzantine 12th cen Manuel I trachy, these cup coins have always piqued my interest.</p><p><br /></p><p>52. Faustina junior, wife of Marcus Aurelius, it's really heavy for a mid-2nd century denarius!</p><p><br /></p><p>53. Hadrian dupondius, my first Hadrian which I bought as an unknown bronze, also I had fun identifying the legends.</p><p><br /></p><p>54. 1802 Spanish-Mexico 8 reales, classic international coin with Oriental chopmarks.</p><p><br /></p><p>55. Olbia dolphin, 2400years old proto coin from Greece.</p><p><br /></p><p>56. Syracuse second democracy onkia, 450bc, featuring Nymph and Octopus, this coin gives a kraken feel.</p><p><br /></p><p>57. Gordian III antoninianus, my largest roman silver coin.</p><p><br /></p><p>58. Another Commodus, but holed, I always wonder at what time period and why this hole must have been made!</p><p><br /></p><p>59. 1000 y/o Gadhiya paisa from North-western India, my another best looking ancient.</p><p><br /></p><p>60. Umayyad dirham, dated 714 AD, within the first century of forming Islam.</p><p><br /></p><p>61. 1350s German Hand Heller coin, minted during the black plague!</p><p><br /></p><p>62.
